P.S.S. Just in case you can not tell, the camera is doing what it thinks is good focused picture taking. I am not sure what it used as it's inspiration but my guess it was not the users manual.

Random Monday

Well, maybe the rambling is the effect of me needing my forty winks!

Tonight was Redbox free movie night!

We had two free Redbox movie codes so I walked with a few kids to HyVee to mail a package and pick out our two free movies. Twinkle Toes for the girls and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance for the big kids. I just need to remember to get the movies back before nine tomorrow night so the movies stay free. We have a tendency to miss the return deadline a lot.

I thought I would make oatmeal cookies as the kids were watching their movies. Great idea but in my hasty excitement to surprise the kids with warm delicious cookies I used melted butter instead of softened butter so the cookies spread like pancakes while they were cooking. I also forgot to grease the cookie sheets which made the pancake oatmeal cookies stick like glue to the cookie sheets. Elena warns me quite often that I will regret my hasty cooking practices. She is always right. Where did she get that crystal ball anyway?

I read a story called The Flying Trunk to the girls before bed. Have you every read that story? It is interesting. Sadly, the version I read to the girls skipped over the merchant's sons funny story he told at the tea party. Not sure why,though. Do you think the girl is still waiting for merchant's son on the roof? Some of my girls thought she could be and thought it was sad.

I was going to start a sewing project earlier this evening but got as far as looking at my fabric stash. I pulled out this real fun brown fabric with owls and an orange coordinating fabric. Isn't it a gorgeous combo?

I was too lazy to tackle changing my sewing machine thread color and wind matching bobbins so I just left the fabric on the table for tomorrow. It will give me time to decide what to make out of it. I am tossing around either one of the little girl dresses with the straps I have been making or try my hand at a little girls reversible A-line dress. The fabric would make a fun little bag as well...

If I Would Have Known...

If I would have known that by the end of the day I would have sewn this...

I would have made sure I woke up on the right side of the bed...not the wrong side!

On to the dress info!

I used a pattern from this beautiful book

Girl's World: Twenty-One Sewing Projects to Make for Little Girls

The dress I made is very easy to make.

Yikes! I forgot the name of the pattern I used! I know it was dress number 1 but it had a cute name.

I like this dress because it just slips over the head so no zippers or buttons to work with but it does make for a wider neckline and the bodice is not as fitted.

The one Lily is wearing is a size Small or 4/5 but I think she could fit into the smaller size.

The pattern did call for bias tape for the neck and arm holes but I think lining the bodice is easier that bias tape and looks nicer so I did that instead.

The pink apron was another of the projects in the book. In the book it was made out of tulle but since I did not have any of that I though this pink stuff would look cute.

Now this is a pattern I will make more of!!!!

I am very pleased!

Slipped My Mind!!

I forgot all about yesterday's Waseca Homecoming!

The 13 older kids were off to find the best candy throwing spots for the homecoming parade so Joel, Lily, and I found our own good spot along the parade route to gather candy.

It is unsettling that the kids are growing so fast and not feeling the need to be by mom as much.

All too quickly those once little birds are wanting to test their wings...

Would it be unfair of me to keep Joel and Lily little for a while longer?

Maybe give their wings a teeny tiny little clip?

No?

I know.

You are right.

I need to let them grow up...

I realize my homecoming parade pictures are lacking somewhat...

I did not make it to the football game last night either!

I do have lots of BlueJay pride.

Honest.

Just a wimp when it comes to cold weather.

A Past Peek

My Etsy Shop My Little Dragonfrye has been pretty quiet until last week when someone bought my Poky Little Puppy quilt and fabric book set!

That was very nice!

The buyer left such sweet feedback about it too!

"This was so beautiful and as someone who started in the 1950's with the Poky Little Puppy then my children in the 1970's and now my great-niece will receive this for her new baby. I love it. Thank you so much."

Ah, that just made me smile.

It made my day actually.

It is nice to create something that others appreciate.

Anyway, it got me thinking back to how my shop has changed over the last four years.

Here was my very first Etsy sale.

And here are some of the quilts I sold that first year or so.

It is interesting how my sewing interests have changed over the past few years and it is documented in Etsy shop.

Now I have very few quilts but more little girl clothes and such.

My little Etsy peek might be stirring up a quilting itch in me...

I can kind of feel it coming on...
