22nd Annual Waseca Marching Classic Parade

Did you miss me? Probably did not even realize I was missing. I was not really, but the power cord on our laptop needed to be replaced which meant I did not have access to my computer for a whole day. Anyhow,I'm back.

Today is the 22nd Annual Waseca Marching Classic and before the competition there is a very fun parade. It was perfect...all that was missing were bagpipes. (A wink to the Zoo keeper)

Jeff and 11 of the kids were in the parade representing AWANA. Joel and Grace could have been it the parade as well but I thought they would enjoy watching it instead. I did have them in their Cubbies vests to show support.

I LOVE this cute little messy haired baby! As most of you who know me well realize, I love anything sweet and artificial. I have not failed to pass that along to the kids.

I tried to get pictures of all of my children who were in the parade. I do not think I left anyone out.

My Little Test Baby

If you ever wonder about the practicality of making a baby a fabric book here is a great demonstration for you! Once Lids was done reading Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer she realized it would also make a great pillow! Now, can this be done with a regular book (comfortably anyway)? I do not think so!



As long as I am showing off my test baby I thought I would show you this baby quilt. Isn't it cute? I was not sure if the waffle backed fabric would wash up well or if the batting that was not secure in the middle square would bunch up after washing. I think the blanket is passing the wash and baby use test. That is good. I have another identical quilt to make as well as two girl versions I now feel comfortable to finish up and sell but lucky Lids is now the owner of this tested quilt. Sweet dreams cozy little babes!

I just finished up the quilt top I was working on this week. Maybe the colors are a little on the dull side(?). My camera did not do the best job catching the true look of the quilt. I do enjoy this particular pattern. I believe I made it one other time and I know I will make it again. It is very fast and easy.




What should I start on next? I will think about it.

Random Stuff

Pat me on the back! We actually did our first day of our unit study today!!!

I really think I am going to enjoy this year of school.It will be the first time in a few years. I hope the kids enjoy the year as well.

Of course, I did not get any pictures but things did get done today.

Here is a random picture of Joyce Elena took this morning. Look at that beautiful smile. There is some silly mischief going on behind those pearly whites.






Here is the newest quilt top I started this evening. It is one of Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day quilt patters.I think it is called Truly Yours but I am not sure.

If you are ever looking for a fast simple quilt to make Eleanor's Quilt in a Day books are great. I will not get this quilt top done in a day but probably this week.

All the fabric is from WallMart. Not bad,hu?

Hurray For The TWINS !!

A group of the Waseca FCA HeavenWord Handlers,their coaches,and fellow groupies spent this afternoon at the Dome watching the TWINS play the Oakland A's. They had a lot of fun. After the game the group ran the bases.

Not Bad For A Saturday Evening

None of these quilt tops have been very photogenic but in real life they turned out very well. Honest.

This first quilt top is my birthday quilt. I love these fabrics.




It was such an easy fast pattern,I made a second one.




If you remember I was originally going to use the princess fabric above with this pattern below but changed my mind. I dug out this charm pack and had enough and two squares to spare. I think I will add a little applique heart (or two) on the minky with the spare squares. Cute! This is definitely a make again pattern.




This is a quilt top pattern I just made up but I am sure I must have seen it some were before. I had 16 of these boy 5" squares and did not know what to do with them. I thought adding blue jean borders would be fun. The blue jean fabric is really darker than it shows in the photo. I think this will look great quilted and once it starts to fade like worn jeans do, it will be the neatest quilt. It might look blah and simple now but just wait...

I think I have the same type of girl 5" squares around. Maybe, I will make a girl version as well.

8th Annual U of M Open House

Jeff brought all but Lily and myself to the 8th Annual U of M Open House down here at the U of M Southern Research and Outreach Center this evening. See Waseca has so many things to offer!

This year's theme was Agriculture for the 21st Century: Growing a Strong Bioeconomy. There were lots of fun things for the kids to do and a free dinner! You can not ask for more than that!

I should have gone because it looked so fun. I selfishly timed Lily's nap just right so I could get a few things done.

Already Behind!

It is only our second day of school and I am behind.


It started with me waking up late. Some of you who know me personally know I am very much a night owl. I do not do mornings well. OK, waking up late is still workable. But oh no! Tonight is the first night of AWANA and I have three heads of hair to wash and braid and One head of long hair to wash and comb through. I should not have procrastinated last week about doing this. I'm not very quick with hair braiding so I opted for two natural looks and a cute little puff 'do. The long haired child just went unwashed but as long as nobody stood too close things would be ok. Tomorrow is a new day. I will start over.


Here are my younger six all ready for dad to come home from work and head over to AWANA. It is Joel's first year in Cubbies. I will sure miss him here at home with me. A group of my older kids decided to walk to AWANA early instead of waiting for their dad. And yet another group of my children..young adults I meant to say...walked to the near by Lutheran church to participate in something called The Amazing Race with a bunch of local church youth groups here in Waseca. What a whirl wind of activity around here today.



To pay for our schooling this year I used mostly my earnings from my Etsy shops or earning from Ebay selling. It has taken a while but here is my pile so far. It will get me a partly through the year. Thank you to all my customers!

Good Old School Days

We enjoyed our first day of home school. Everything was going so crazy fast I could not snap any school pictures but I did get this cute one of Lily sitting at one of the school tables eating a snack after school was finished for the day.



What was the first day of school like with my 13 students plus Lily? Not so bad. We did not do any actual teaching today. The kids cleaned out their school shelves. They decorated their pencil boxes and folders. Even the teens were wanting their own pencil boxes.Who an I to deny them that?! Keep them young for just one more year.

Let's see...I passed out the glue,pencils and crayons. A new box of crayons is always fun,isn't it? I went over a refresher course on school behavior. Not much changed except the cost to purchase pencils from dear old mom. Gasp...I actually charge my children for pencils. They are allowed two complimentary pencils each but after that I charge $.25 this year up .$15 cents from last year. Only three things seem to stop school in it's tracks around here: a fussy child,a fussy mom,and no pencil to write with.The phone goes unanswered and the doorbell ignored.Sorry company I do enjoy you,though.

I also went over with Grant and Alan what I expect from them in the area of school work each day and gave them their books. Elena has been doing school all summer long so she has things under control already.

Tomorrow I will pass out books and go over school expectations with Cyrus,Nolan,and Josh.

Joyce and the 5 younger girls and Joel on Thursday and Friday.

We will start with our core unit study stuff next Monday. It will be good!
