The Secret

She leans close to my ear, brushing my hair away as if it might hinder me from hearing her secret.

The secret intended for my ears only.

She leans forward and whispers softly.

"I love you, mommy."

As if to confirm her deep secret, she once more whispers in her sweet little toddler voice.

"Mommy, I love you so much."

She then sits back against the chair.

It is as if a heavy unseen weight has been lifted from her small shoulders.

She is now free.

Free from this secret that has been hidden for so long.

Free now to ask for my puff corn.

We eat the puff corn in silents as my hair falls back over my ear, and marvel at what just transpired.

Warmly,A Patchwork Mommy
