Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Today was one of those hot days. I woke up with a chip on my shoulder and could not shake it off.I feel like I am engulfed in bitterness and anger today. The heat is getting to me.I almost broke down and turned on the AC but decided against it.

I did wash my bedding today and hung everything to dry on our roof top clothes line.I have my own special little jug of Tide laundry soap that I use to wash my quilts that I sell.We use the cheap not real good smelling stuff for our family laundry but I thought that nice smelling blankets & sheets would cheer me up a little so I used some of the Tide to wash my sheets and blankets. There is nothing like sleeping with clean sheets and blankets that smell good.

The kids spent most of the day playing in our little knee deep pool or just sitting around probably avoiding me.

Elena,Grant, and Alan walked over to the library this morning and picked out a bunch of books to read.

Here is a neat site called Vintage Sewing that some of you who enjoy sewing might think is real interesting.

A Quiet Day

Today was just a quite day.Our street seems so still after such a busy weekend!

I added a few more books to my Home school books for sale list.Go to my Homeschool book list if you are interested.I believe this is the end of the bulk of my school books.

I still have a microscope, a telescope, a gram scale, and a Handi Quilter that I am looking to sell.I will put them on my Dragonfrye Quilts site soon but until then if you know of anyone interested you could have them email me at waseca16@yahoo.com.

Not much planned at our house for the week but I am real sure some blog worthy things will come up so keep visiting!

It's Over...

Our fair week sure was fun! Everyone is very tired but wished the week was not at a close.I love fair week but am glad when everything slows down again.

I wanted to give a little update on my little driveway quilt sale adventure during the fair.I decided to have my quilts displayed all 4 days.Once the kids started their Lemonade stand I moved my quilt stuff to a little area right across from the Lemonade table.

I sold one whole cloth quilt, one fleece tie blanket, and one tie dyed shirt.I also made 9 dollars in prize money because I won a few place ribbons for the quilts I entered.Sadly, someone stole two of my most expensive and bigger quilts. They took my Long Ago and Far Away quilt and my A Little of Everything quilt! Can you believe someone would do such a thing!Surly these thieves were not Wasecans!

Elena sold three of her friendship bracelets and one of her painted jars.

It was fun to have our own little shop area for the weekend.I enjoyed chatting with a lot of other quilters who stopped to look.A couple ladies gave me a few selling ideas...maybe Waseca's farmers Market.Elena and I should try that sometime.

Jeff really enjoyed the whole scene as well. One evening he sat out with Grace watching the lemonade stand and all my quilts entertaining those passing by with his harmonica playing.

The nice couple who own the snow cone booth at the fair surprised the kids by bringing them two huge plates of nachos!

Hmm....I really like Waseca.

The Big 7 at the Fair

Finally it was Elena,Grant,Joyce,Alan,Cyrus,Nolan, and Josh's turn at the fair! They all earned enough money selling lemonade to go on few extra rides as well as get something good to eat!

Joyce.Rummer has it they had to stop the ride early because Joyce was too afraid. The rummer has yet to be confirmed by Joyce herself though.

4th Annual Frye Lemonade Stand

Come and join us for our 4Th annual Frye Lemonade Stand. It really is the best deal at the fair!Well, actually we are not really in the fair just close to the fair.

"Lemonade 10 cents, brownies and rice crispy bars 5 cents, and candy FREE!"

Our house is usually loud but nothing comes close to how loud it is when the kids are selling lemonade!

Here is the JV Frye team taking their turn selling lemonade.

Joel and Grace at the Fair

We decided instead of going as one huge family to split the kids into different groups and take turns bringing the kids to the fair for their 'official' money spending visit. The groups were determined by age and the rides they would go on.Good thing we just live down the street from the fair!It worked out very well.See,Jeff and I had enough money just to buy each child one ride and a pop/popcorn treat. The rest would have to come from the kids own money.I brought Grace & Joel as well as another small impromptu group just to look around.

Here are the highlights of Joel & Grace's fair visit.

Oops...this first picture was our visit to the animal barn right next to the FCA area at the fair.We all stopped to look at the animals after the boys preformed Friday night. You can see most of the kids in the background waiting for us.

This picture below starts my Joel/Grace visit at the fair.

I faced a BIG fear of mine today and set up a table at the end of our driveway to see if we could sell a few quilts. So very very scary for me.It is easy to just put stuff on the Internet but a very different thing to do it 'live'! The kids were very exited about it,though.Elena made a poster for me and put some price tickets on some of the quilts.

We had a few lookers but you know when you are set out to go to a fair you are not thinking 'let's spend our money on quilts',no it's about fair food and rides!Today, was really not so much about 'selling' but to do something scary and uncomfortable just to say that I did it.OK,I loved to people watch as well.

I think I will set the table up Friday as well just because I already did the hard part.I will move aside for our annual Lemonade stand on Saturday.

I do have to mention that Elena had a little table next to my quilt table called Elena's Store. She had made some friendship bracelets and painted jars.My sweet Elena!

I would like to have an actual official quilt and craft sale in August and maybe one close to Christmas but thinking about it and actually doing it are very different.I love to sew but do not have great confidence in my sewing and quilting creations.

I TOTALLY forgot that today was our 15th wedding anniversary! Where is my mind! It was on the fair week I know.Jeff brought home a beautiful bunch of flowers and an iced mocha for me.All I gave him was a bowl of cold cheesy chicken noodles that he had to heat up himself!Poor Jeff.I always seem to be caught by surprise when our anniversary hits.I keep thinking I'll be better prepared next year but am not.

This 15 year mark is actually pretty big for me.My parents divorced after 14 years of marriage. Two of my sisters will be having their 11th wedding anniversaries this year.

On another note, I still think that turning 40 is affecting me. I wake up in the mornings pretty anxious with a mild sense of dread or fear.I just feel like crying.I can not explain it but I do remember waking up with the same feelings if I went to a slumber party growing up or the first few nights transitioning from sleeping at my mom's or dad's house. It is also what I feel like for the first few weeks after I have a baby.It must be anxiety of some sort.I just keep thinking 40 was not supposed to be like this. What 'this' I am referring to I really do not know.Oh, well.

Tomorrow (Friday) evening is the boys big performance with Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the fair. They are very exited and nervous.Coach John and all the Heavenword Handlers that are participating in the demonstration were over here practicing Tuesday evening .The bit I saw looked real good!

Josh & Odell

I had the privilege or accompanying Josh & Odell to the fair this evening.Just the three of us.Josh has this game he REALLY wanted to play.He had been looking forward to it all year. Both Odell and Josh played the game and won a prize!

The three of us then walked over to the Waseca Historical Society building to get popcorn and pop.

We had to make a stop to pet the animals!

It all ended a little too soon.

Yahtzee!!!!

Josh and I were playing a game of Yahtzee on my bed this evening.Lily was very curious and wanted to join in.

P.S. Did you know moms were exempt from making their beds?So for all you moms who still make your beds,no more!Relax & enjoy that extra few minutes of free time in the morning.
