Remember When

Remember when

the sound of little feet

was music we danced to week to week.

Remember when

thirty seemed so old

Now, looking back

it's just a stepping stone

from where we are

where we've been

Said we'd do it all again

Remember when...

Farmer's Market Count Down

I did indeed sleep in today.

This coming Saturday is the start of Waseca's Farmer's Market!

I did not think I would be back out there selling this year but to Ghana Grant is going so I will happily do my part.

Last year I was the only booth out this early in the year and felt a little silly but I will be out there again this year.

SO as you are driving around town Saturday morning

and you see that lady pulling her green wagon with what looking like her household belongings down main street...

perhaps talking to herself,

It's just me.

No need to worry.

I did a little experiment to see if making little cakes would be a good Farmer's Market thing to sell.

These are white chocolate orange mini cakes. The kids liked them. I might try to make them look fancier.

Gee.

I have absolutely no baking imagination.

A Long Weekend

Guess what I am going to do since Jeff has tomorrow off of work?

Sleep late.

I kind of feel like it should be Jeff who should have a chance to sleep in and I should get up early.

A good wife would do that...

Well, maybe...

Jeff's idea of sleeping in is until maybe eight or nine.

That is SO not sleeping in!

No!

I call getting up at twelve or one sleeping in.

My sleeping in trumps Jeff's sleeping in.

Maybe my 'wife example' should not be followed.

Don't do what I do.

Instead, do what I say.

Let your husband sleep in.

Be a good wife.

I do not mind being the bad wife just for sleeping in purposes.

But you should be the good wife.

I will be humbled by your selfless example.

Actually, I really would.

Jeff being the great husband he is ok'd my sleeping in.

In honesty, I feel like I could sleep for days and days.

My body is already preparing to turn...any one speak Icelandic out in blog land?

No?

Well, like I was saying my body must be preparing to turn fjörtíu og fimm soon.

On to other fun stuff...

We had our first Real Group today and I LOVED it!!

I am really looking forward to our group this summer.

I also did a tad of quilt top sewing this evening.

The pictures are not spectacular but these two quilt tops will look great once I get around to quilting them.

Ghana Go To Africa!!

Our son Grant will be heading back to Ghana, West Africa in the fall for 6 weeks!!

If you might recall, Grant went to Ghana for about 2 weeks last year with a mission team from Christ Community Church and coordinated by ASON International.

This year Grant has the opportunity to travel to Ghana for six weeks to help build a guest house and a septic field as well work with Ghanaian youth. This is a wonderfully, exciting opportunity for him.

We are thinking of ways to fund raise the approximately $5,500 dollars Grant will need for his trip.

That is a good chunk of change.

One idea we had was to sell t-shirts.

These are our prototypes.

What do you think?

I am still in the tweaking stage but what do you think?

Is a hand-painted t-shirt something people would want to purchase for a fundraiser?

Or are they cheap and cheesy looking?

I would like whoever would buy one to not be embarrassed to wear it in public.

I know that there are on-line sites that actually print the t-shirt design but hand-made is much more fun if it is done right and we would save a few dollars doing the design ourselves.

Today

I spent the afternoon spring cleaning our living room.

I was dusting and thought since I was dusting I might as well take a picture of my grandma's silverware set.

A good excuse to take more random pictures.

Isn't it a pretty set?

It actually belongs to my oldest sister Heide but I have it for the time being.

The silverware box.

I finally took down the last of our Christmas decorations and put away my winter quilts and brought out my spring quilts.

Josh and Naomi planted my Mother's Day flowers in our front weed flower garden.

Now I am getting distracted with the camera.

Joel

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, Joel did not change his clothes since yesterday.

~sigh~

Grace

Lily

Back to cleaning...

Um...cat...do you and your babies have to be right in the middle of where I am cleaning?

A pretty gift for me.

Thanks, Joel!!

Cleaning done.

Time for a little relaxation.

And One Thing Leads To Another

My table schooled kids (meaning the two who sit at the table among my sewing to do their school instead of beds, various couches, floor, front porch swing, or any other desirable cozy spot...) were already hard at their school for the day when I noticed Lily looking adorable in my winter hat.

It was just the motivation for me to get out my camera and snap a picture of her.

Which led to this picture of Joel sitting next to her doing his school.

I then turned around to snap a picture of Anya finishing up her kitchen chore. It does not look like she is having much fun, does it? Kitchen chore week comes once every ten weeks for each kid on the regular chore schedule but those ten weeks speed by way to fast.

I noticed my little pre/kindergartner is off her chair and playing with one of the baby kitties.

Which leads to this picture. My Favorite.

Now I am kind of antsy so I call an end to our school day and a bunch of us walk down to a garage sale at our Waseca fair grounds.

Good times. The kids bought some fun toys and clothes.

Josh found a bike that he said is just what he had been hoping for.

I am always on the look-out for vintage sewing patterns or fabric or kids books. None of that but I did find a few treasures.

A bike fixing book. I would not mind adding bike fixing to my list of 'things I know how to do'.

Ok. I know. I know. Why do I 'the mom' need this! But how could I resist!! I am a kid at heart.

My garage sale items photo shoot lead me to needing a quilt to put my items on.

Out came this quilt.

It is one of the first quilts that I made. I made it for Grant when he was a baby almost 18 years ago.

I really had no clue what I was doing and the quilt was not quite usable which explains the preserved condition it is all these years later.

I used extra fabrics from Elena's baby quilt, fabric from baby dresses I made Elena, and even some of my left over Bridesmaids dress fabric for the quilt. I went cotton calico for my bridesmaids' dresses and made the dresses myself. Um...my choice of fabric could have been much better and my sewing skills were not very developed so my bridesmaids deserved a medal of honor for being seen in public in those dresses.

Now that the quilt photo shoot is over, let's see how my Mother's Day flowers are doing...

Lokking very pretty.

...and one thing lead to another in the life of 'me' today...
