Valentine's Prep

"Three layers of moist cake topped with creamy icing is like a slice of heaven.
Knowing it’s as close as your freezer... well, that’s even better."

Yum. Yum.

Nothing like a little Pepperige Farms.

Thanks Jeff!!!!

Elena and I are going to make a special handmade treat for all the kids for Valentine's Day.

Can you figure out what the treat might be?

Here is a hint...

I am also going to make homemade Valentine's cards with goodies.

It will be a fun day of projects.

I will show you the finished Valentine's goodies tomorrow.

I hope they turn out as pretty and as special as I envision they will.

I think they will...

We are also making individual Valentine pizzas as well as celebrating Odell's birthday Valentine's evening.

It is also our Friday 'movie night'.

Wow!

A triple fun time!!!

I will sleep in a bit on Saturday...

Randoms

Two almost finished skirts.

I am going to miss getting them into my Etsy shop for Valentine's Day.

Oh well.

At least they will be ready for next year.

Like I say, I am always thinking steps ahead of the the rest...

~Sigh~

Yes, yes, that was said tongue and cheek.

You were not supposed to tell, you know.

It is all about the illusion..

But truth, I am usually miles behind...

Moving on.

A little Fancy Nancy

Moving on a little further...

The perfect candle.

Much care was taken by Josh to preserve the perfectly placed wax drips.

To conclude this post I would like to quote Fancy Nancy from her Favorite Fancy Words book shown above,

"répondez s'il vous plaît"

 aka: RSVP

Hm...realizing that fancy set of words does not apply right now.

Does this introduce an awkward moment into the content of my post?

Kind of thinking it does.

Maybe I will change the fancy words to:

Passez une bonne nuit!!

aka: have a good night!

What Brain Matter? It is all Fluff Between These Ears.

I had not done a good job keeping track of what day today was.

First I thought it was Friday so I had the kids doing the 'Friday' tasks in their chore areas today. Friday is one of our floor mopping in all hard surfaced rooms day as well as the toilet, sink, and shower in the bathrooms days. Monday is the other floor mopping/big bathroom cleaning day. No one pointed out my mistake until after the chores were done and even then I did not believe them.

But it is Thursday.

Second, I forgot it was Valentine's Day! Joel was so excited and made his little Valentine's mailbox expecting it to filled with treats from mom. I am sure I broke his little Valentine heart when he asked when we are going to do our Valentine's Day fun and I impatiently said not today.

~Sigh~

I tried to redeem the day when I noticed my mistake.

I did not have Valentine treats but told him we would do that part this weekend.

I whipped up some pizza dough and we made our Valentine homemade pizzas.

I am glad that Hulu had a Charlie Brown Valentine show available to stream.

I thought of a quick Valentine's dessert. Chocolate ice cream with strawberries and bananas. Sounds Valentine-ish doesn't it?

Now I can relax. The day is almost over.

I used to be so good at remembering things and being organized.

I guess not anymore.

Yum. I think this is Ekie's pizza waiting to be cooked.

Double Yum!!! This is my BIG bowl.

Although Valentine's Day slipped my mind, others remembered!

My Valentine's Day loot.

I am pretty sure you all had this day all under control.

I hope it was a fun day!!

Valentine's Day Part 2!!

Now on to our Valentine's dinner.

Yes, actual meatballs with our spaghetti! That is pretty special.

My first attempt at shaping french bread. You aren't laughing are you?

Ice cream cones for dessert! Personally my favorite part of the meal.

We let our dinner settle while Jeff and the kids huddled around our teeny tiny portable DVD player. Jeff appropriately rented the Charlie Brown Easter video! I snuck off with the box of Valentine chocolates Jeff gave me. Shhhh. Don't tell.

Very funny! Elena using binoculars to see the video screen. Smart girl!

We hope you are still enjoying the glow of your Valentine's celebration!

A Happy Valentine's Day From US!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

to my faithful blog readers!!

Today was a whirl-wind of activity!

The kids were working hard on their Valentine bags for part of the afternoon.

Their hard work payed off! Don't these look great all lined up?!

Here is a peek inside of a few of the bags.

A lot of the kids worked hard this past weekend making Valentines for each other so the bags were pretty filled.

Here was my addition to each person's bag.

This past summer Elena and her friend sold cookies and baked goods at our local farmers market to make a little extra spending money. They were there most every Saturday morning and Thursday evening selling their goodies August through October. I thought I would package my Valentine cookies much like Elena and Miranda did for the farmers market.

Not quite as impressive as theirs but they look special anyway!

Tomorrow I will share how we spent the rest of our Valentine's Day evening!

Making Valentines

Part Two!

Whew!

The kids finished up their Valentine cards! It took a few evenings but they did it! By now all their Valentines are in the hands of their AWANA classmates!

Some were questioning how effective Jeff's supervision tactics where the other night. It was not me honest...umm...honest... So for those of you who doubt his ability to supervise with his eyes closed he supervised with his eyes open during round two of Valentine card making. Just for you...oh,you of little faith.

Making Valentines

Part one.

The other day I had a few of the kids start on their Valentines cards to pass out to their friends at AWANA. I tried to calculate exactly how many hearts I cut out from construction paper but I lost count. I do know we had more than 280 Dum Dum suckers that we used up so it must have been somewhere in that ballpark.

Now this Valentine card making supervision is such a breese Jeff can do it with his eyes closed! Can yours? I think not.

A Very Busy Day!!

Since I am still not organized enough to get to church with the younger kids I though a little home churchgoing would fit us well! So while Jeff and eight of the kids were off at regular church I held our first children's home church. No need to wear matching clothes or braid hair or even make sure finger nails were clean. No pressure to do anything but learn about God and enjoy each other. I am still working on the worship part. We had a great time! In all honesty I just loved it! I truly did. Of course, the goal is to get organized enough to go to church as a family but we think this is a good solution at this point for our family.

Of course, later in the day was Valentines celebration time!!

Jeff,Joyce, and Alan made a very tasty meal of Italian sausage and peppers. It was very good.

and thanks to A Baker's Dozen for their mention of The Duggar's Layered Ice Cream Cake we had a wonderful dessert made by Josh and Anya.

Only a tot can get away with wearing glamorous high heals along with a very chocolaty face.

Warmly,
A Patchwork Mommy
