A Treat For Alan

Lily , Grant and I are hard at work making Alan a pre-birthday treat.

New Orleans Beignets!

They are SO good!

We used this bread machine recipe but we did not use the bread machine.

New Orleans Beignets

(for bread machine)

2/3 C buttermilk
1/4 C water
1 egg
1 tbs butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 C flour
1/4 C. sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
cooking oil for deep frying
powder sugar

Add all ingredients except oil and powder sugar ,to your bread machine. Select dough cycle. When cycle is complete remove dough from machine.Punch down. Cover and let rest ten minutes.

Divide dough in half. On lightly floured surface roll each portion of dough into a nine inch square. Cut each into 16 2 1/4 inch squares.

Fry dough squares a few at a time in deep hot oil (375) for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown, turning once. Remove from oil and drain on a paper towel.Sprinkle with powder sugar. Transfer to wire rack to cool.
