Today has been a pretty quiet day.

I did not attempt any sandwich cooking today so ends my blogging about sandwiches trend.

For Lunch we just had our good old beans and rice. I thought to take a picture of one of the plates but beans and rice do (or is it does?) not photograph well. I do have to say I did leave the lunch with my cooking trademark...I burned the rice. I usually seem to burn the rice! I even added 4 extra cups of water but I let the rice boil a little too long while I was off doing a momish thing. Are you curious as to how much rice fills up my 14 children along with their beans? I usually boil 16 cups of water (but today I boiled 20 cups) and then add 8 cups of slow cooking rice. Most every bit of rice is eaten.

Jeff took most all the children to Morristown Dam days Parade this evening. The had a lot of fun. I forgot to send the camera with! I heard there were a lot of fun things to see and those Bagpipes were awesome!!!!

Here are three more cute baby blankets I finished up this evening while Jeff was putting kids to bed. The top two have a silky off white backing and the bottom one has white minky type fabric for the backing. They turned out very cute in my opinion.

  1. Tina, do you add other tasty things to your beans and rice? Or, just leave it plain? I love to hear about your easy, tasty meals. I still think about your soup and my kids LOVE the bean and cheese melts.

  2. Erica,

No I really do not add anything special to our beans and rice. For my crew I usually use a 6 lb 15oz can of Chili Beans so the chili sauce gives a little flavor.

Otherwise, I use a mix of ten 15 oz cans black beans, dark kidney beans, light kidney beans, pinto beans, and chili beans. The combo of the different beans gives flavor.

Some of our kids LOVE hot sauce so they add that and mix everything together. Some of the other kids eat their beans like chili and put butter garlic sause and soy sauce on their rice.

As a treat I might add a pound of sausage or something if we have it but usually it is just the beans.

We do not eat fancy at all some might not consider our eating as healthy as it could be but we are fine with it.

Our monthy grocery bill is not over $ 700 for all 16 of us. We eat a lot of can veggies as opposed to fresh or frozen and do not see as much fruit as I would like. In order to keep our food costs down we do not vary our menu much . Every meal is pretty predictable.

We are making do and it is pretty fun as long as I do not compare our simple meals to what others make for their families. Food is food and our thought is we would rather have a house with a whole bunch of kids and eat very simple than have fancy meals but less children. There might be a time when we will be able to eat a little more fancy but now things are good.
